Chiropractic Care

Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?

Approximately 95% of the time, you can make an adjustment without any pain. There may be an occasional time when you get a little bit of discomfort with some adjustments at the beginning, but certainly, there's less tissue trauma with instrument versus manual adjustments.

Once I go to a chiropractor, will I always have to go?

Yes, if you want optimal function from the spine and nervous system, but the decision is always yours.

Can chiropractic cure everything?

No, but the nervous system can affect many areas of the body. If it's not functioning properly, it can affect many different disorders.

Why would I have my newborn or young child adjusted?

Sometimes, a long or difficult labor or birth intervention can create problems right at the beginning of a newborn child's life. This can often result in colic and later recurrent ear infections or upper respiratory tract infections.

Does insurance cover chiropractic visits?

While our public health system does not, most people have extended healthcare plans that do cover chiropractic.

How much does it cost?

A regular visit for an adult is $51, and for students and seniors, $45.

Do I need a referral from my physician?

No.

Do you work with medical doctors?

Yes, and we have some as patients.

Will I get adjusted on my first visit?

It depends on the clinical picture at that time. We try and do everything we can to relieve a person as quickly as possible.

Will you suggest exercises or other things I can do?

Yes.

Can someone who has had back surgery see a chiropractor?

Yes.

Pediatric Chiropractic

Why would I have a newborn or young child adjusted?

The delivery process can trigger misalignments in the spine and weakness in the neck muscles at the beginning, with a rather large head relative to neck size that can create changes in the neck alignment. Typically, in the first year, rapid growth and development and muscle and motor changes occur. A child goes from crawling to trying to hold themselves up on furniture and sometimes walking by the end of the first year.

Can chiropractic help with colic?

Yes.

How are children adjusted, and what are the benefits?

A very small force is used in a newborn, similar to the pressure you would apply when checking the ripeness of a tomato. In young children, typically under three years of age, their spinal bones are mostly cartilage, so they're very malleable. The other benefit for kids at that age is they respond much faster than school-aged children or teenagers.

How old were your children when they received their first adjustment?

Dr. Martin's son and daughter were both a day old.

How often should my child be adjusted?

This varies depending on the clinical picture of what's going on with your child's health.

Pregnancy Chiropractic

How prudent is an adjustment during pregnancy?

We've adjusted pregnant women full term since 1987 with no complications.

How often do I need to come in?

It depends; on average, moms-to-be come in every two weeks, particularly in the second and third trimesters.

Will you work with my OB-GYN?

Yes, and we also work with midwives.

Do I need a referral from my physician?

No.

Sports Chiropractic

How is sports chiropractic different from regular chiropractic?

It can be a little more focused on performance and strength in a particular sport or activity versus general health and wellness, which Dr. Martin would use for a less active patient.

Can regular care improve my golf game?

It could! We've seen that in many cases where people had lower back and pelvic joint misalignments. After restoring better function, they're hitting the ball further with more accuracy and reducing their score. Of course, we can't guarantee you'll play better, but chiropractic may help.

Why are so many professional athletes raving about chiropractors?

Chiropractic helps to improve performance naturally, decreases injuries, and reduces healing time.

Auto Accident Care

Does your office bill insurance companies?

Yes, we directly bill for auto insurance claims. For other types of patients, we don't have the ability to do that. Patients will pay for their regular visits, and then we give them receipts, which they submit online. Then, they're usually paid within a few days.

Do you take X-rays?

Yes. You must be over 18 unless there are some unusual circumstances we need to look at.

How long does the initial appointment take?

Just 30 minutes.

Do you recommend any treatments other than chiropractic care?

Yes, we have a large network of massage therapists and physiotherapists we can work with outside our clinic.

What sort of injuries can happen in an accident?

Soft tissue strains (i.e., whiplash-associated disorders) involve ligaments, tendons, and strained muscles. You can also have disc damage and misalignments in the spinal and pelvic bones.
