"Don't Risk Injury"

Happy New Year!

It is that time of year again when people start paying closer attention to things like their weight, fitness level, appearance and general health.  If you are about to start exercising and it’s been a while since you have exercised regularly or if your spine hasn’t been checked for weaknesses, you may be headed for an injury.

Steps to Better Fitness & Health:

  • See your chiropractor and make sure you are structurally sound!
  • Start gradually.  A regular walking program can be gradually increased from a walk to a brisk walk to a walk/run routine.
  • Be realistic.  If you haven’t worked out for a few months or longer your strength will be diminished so go with lighter weights and repetitions of 15-20.  One or 2 rather than 3 sets to start may be prudent.
  • If you are unsure of the exercise options out there, consult a personal trainer or get into a class where you can get pointers from the instructor.
  • Above all, keep it interesting.  It may not be fun but doing a variety of exercises (stretching, strengthening, cardio and balance) keeps you engaged and hopefully exercising longer and consistently.  Carve out some regular exercise times in your busy week and get a workout partner.  Using a fitbit or other devise can also hold you accountable.  Good luck!!
